COLON HYDROTHERAPY

WITH RUTH LLOYD

Better out than in!

Welcome to

Ruth Lloyd Colonics

My name is Ruth Lloyd and I am a fully qualified and insured Colon Hydrotherapist based in Belgravia, London. I work from a tranquil treatment room at The Light Centre, located on 9 Eccleston Street, SW1W 9LX.

I began my career in Complementary therapy in 2001 when I qualified as a Remedial Massage therapist at the Northern Institute of Massage. I then trained in Naturopathic Colon Hydrotherapy in 2004 at the West Midland School of Colonic Hydrotherapy and qualified in 2005. Through the last 18 years I have worked with clients of all ages, with a vast array of medical conditions and reasons for wanting the treatment.

Every one of us is an individual and we all have different needs. In an appointment I aim to understand as much as I can about my clients so that they get the best possible results.

I draw not only on my colonic training but also on other disciplines I have trained in such as massage, reiki, kinesiology, yoga and my first career as a dancer. Furthermore, I have also gained wisdom from therapies I receive and the amazing therapists who have helped me to regain balance along my own journey.

I am registered with The Association of Registered Colon Hydrotherapists (ARCH) and regulated by The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). To maintain registration and regulation I follow stringent hygiene standards and treatment protocols and must continue to improve my professional development via training courses, workshops, reading and keeping up to date with any changes in legislation.

WHAT IS

COLON HYDROTHERAPY?

Colon Hydrotherapy involves introducing water to the colon with the use of a disposable speculum and tubing, to aid the evacuation of waste from the large intestine. The treatment is also known as colonic irrigation.

The therapy itself takes between 30 and 45 minutes, during which warm filtered water gently bathes and cleanses the colon, in a simple, dignified procedure. This filling and emptying is repeated several times and I will massage your abdomen, which further aids in the release of waste and gas.

Unlike an enema, colon hydrotherapy reaches the whole length of the large intestine, with the massage helping to ensure an effective cleanse. The water pressure and temperature are carefully controlled and all waste is drained away discreetly in a closed system with no mess or odours. The colonic system I use is gravity fed.

In addition, coffee, green powders (chlorella, spirulina, wheatgrass) or herbs may be implanted during the treatment and these can all further improve the detoxifying effect of the procedure.

Why have a colonic?

People have colon hydrotherapy for a wide range of reasons. Some are looking for relief from the symptoms of IBS and other gastro-intestinal problems such as bloating, constipation or diarrhoea, while others simply want to maintain and improve their digestive health and enjoy the fresh, light feeling and enhanced energy levels that often comes from the treatment.

Unhealthy modern lifestyles

Even with the best will in the world, few of us eat as healthily as we should, or take enough exercise. Unfortunately, our bodies simply aren’t designed for this sedentary lifestyle fuelled by processed and refined foods full of chemically synthesised ingredients. Inevitably, this upsets the natural way your digestive system works, leading to a range of negative effects on your health, from digestion and bowel problems, to lethargy and headaches.

On top of this, we are exposed to a whole manner of environmental toxins on a daily basis, which can further play havoc with our bodies, including our gut.

How a colonic can help

Colon hydrotherapy works with your body, helping to return your digestive system to a more natural, healthy state. The gentle flow of water works in two ways: firstly, it cleans out waste matter in the colon, and secondly it stimulates the natural nerve and muscle action of the bowels to encourage proper bowel function. In other words: it’s like taking your colon to the gym.

Benefits beyond the bowel

Colon Hydrotherapy gives many people a sensation of overall well-being and energy and it’s often the inspiration for a healthier diet and lifestyle all round. What’s more, since your digestive system is closely linked with the rest of your body's functions, the therapy may also help you with headaches, allergies and skin conditions, and improve mental and physical sluggishness. And when you feel good on the inside, it shows on the outside, bringing out your natural beauty through clearer skin and brighter eyes.
